Die Serie ging 2015 nach ihrem Start anlässlich der arabischen Revolten – wobei wohlweislich schon damals die Bezeichnung „Arabischer Frühling“ vermieden wurde – ins fünfte Jahr. Nichts charakterisiert die Veränderungen im Vergleich zum Jahr 2014 besser als dass im Sommer 2013 ein US-amerikanischer Militärschlag gegen den syrischen Präsidenten Bashar al-Assad bevorzustehen schien, der dann nicht stattfand – hingegen ein Jahr danach die Gründung einer US-geführten Militärallianz, um gegen einen Gegner des syrischen Regimes vorzugehen, den „Islamischen Staat“. Das Problem des internationalen Jihadismus hat 2014 dominiert, Terrorattacken im Herzen Europas standen 2015 im Mittelpunkt.
