„CLIMATE PROTECTION MUST BE SOCIAL“
Since the new city government was formed in November 2020, Jürgen Czernohorszky has been Vienna's Climate City Councillor. According to his own definition, his primary goal is social climate protection. Climate protection that focuses on people's well-being and improves their lives. „I want to achieve this together with all the people of Vienna. In the neighbourhoods, alleyways, schools and municipal buildings. With the workers as well as the academics. From kindergarten children to our elders - everyone should be involved. And we will sweep away the pessimists with our optimism. Because the past may already be written, but we are writing the future together,“ says Czernohorszky.
The politician, born in Eisenstadt in 1977, graduated from university in 2008 with a degree in sociology. He was active in student representation, was a member of the Vienna state parliament and municipal council and was - and still is - an enthusiastic official of the Kinderfreunde children's organisation. In 2015, he became Vienna City School Board President and later City Councillor for Education.
Jürgen Czernohorszky talks to Robert Misik in Kreisky's living room about the new challenges of a climate-friendly and democratic urban policy and his ideas of a progressive and modern social democracy.
