CONFLICT

Robert Misik in conversation with Armen Avanessian
CONFLICT
The urgency of solving tomorrow's problems today
»One of the most important voices of left-wing theory«
Philosophy magazine
Our age is characterised by completely new confrontations that threaten the social order and overwhelm us. There is hardly an area that is not full of conflict: between the sexes and generations, between nations, civilisations and cultures - and of course we are also at odds with ourselves. At the same time, we are becoming increasingly conflict-averse or even repressing conflict. Yet the conflicts of the future have long been shaping the present and are racing inexorably towards us: the digitalisation of our knowledge, unbounded wars, climate change and new forms of planetary coexistence. Against this backdrop, Armen Avanessian argues in favour of a radical new understanding and a positive reassessment of the phenomenon of conflict, which is as overused as it is poorly understood. In order to solve the social problems of the present, we must first learn to understand our future conflicts.
