REGIONAL CONFLICTS AND THEIR SECURITY POLICY SIGNIFICANCE FOR AUSTRIA

COMPARISON OF GERMANY AND AUSTRIA AS COUNTRIES OF IMMIGRATION
It discusses:
Marian Benbow Pfisterer, International Organisation for Migration, Head of the IOM Country Office for Austria
Amena Shakir, Young Muslim Women Austria
Hannes Schreiber, Head of Department IV.5 (Visa, Border, Residence and Asylum Matters; Migration; Combating Trafficking in Human Beings) at the Federal Ministry for Europe, Integration and Foreign Affairs
Moderation Martina Berger, Legal Service of the Austrian Administrative Court
Germany and Austria are both destination and transit countries for migration and have presented different responses to the challenges of migration and integration in the past. Austria's Islam Act of 1912 - and the new edition of 2015 - still has no equivalent in Germany. German-Austrian relations and the EU as a whole have been put to the test by the refugee crisis since 2015. During the Austrian EU Council Presidency, migration is being prioritised from a security perspective. The event will shed light on the different approaches to migration management and integration strategies. What can Austria and Germany learn from each other and what pan-European strategy should they pursue together?
