DREAMING OF EUROPE
How flight and migration work
The whole world is talking about refugees and migrants, Melita H. Šunjić, long-time spokesperson for the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees, talks to them.
Over the past few years, Melita H. Šunjić has conducted interviews in Asia, Africa and Europe. She spoke to people who intended to come to Europe, were on their way or had already arrived. In her book, she discusses the most important terms and contexts of the migration debate and takes European migration policy to task, which has been unsuccessfully stagnating for years. She also gives those affected a voice and lets them talk about flight and migration: Why do they come, how do they come, what did they dream of and what do they actually find? Prototypical case histories illustrate dramatic realities of life and show how smuggling and human trafficking rings work and the role social media play in this.
Melita H. Šunjić, studied journalism and political science and spent twenty years as a press officer and senior communications expert at the UN High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR). She herself came to Austria in 1957 as a refugee child from what was then Yugoslavia. Her book »Die von Europa träumen. Wie Flucht und Migration ablaufen« was published by Picus Verlag in February 2021.
