It is a symbol of the ongoing tangled Israeli-Palestinian conflict: the Palestinian Nakba (catastrophe) on the one hand, and the establishment of the State of Israel on the other hand. The two speakers -- a Palestinian scholar and an Israeli scholar -- offer critical new insights on the emerging trends within Palestinian and Israeli politics and societies and their impact on the prospects of peace.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><strong class=\"rot\">Yonatan Mendel<\/strong> is the Director of Manarat: The Center for Jewish-Arab Relations at the Van Leer Jerusalem Institute, and a senior lecturer in the department of Middle East Studies at Ben-Gurion University of the Negev. His research interests include the status of Arabic language in Israel, the study of Arabic in the Jewish education system, and political and security considerations in the field of Arabic language in Israel.<\/p>\n<p><strong class=\"rot\">Bashir Bashir<\/strong> is a political theorist. He is a senior lecturer in the department of sociology, political science and communication at the Open University of Israel and a senior research fellow at the Van Leer Jerusalem Institute.
