He is Professor of Comparative Cultural Sociology at the European University Viadrina in Frankfurt an der Oder.<\/p>\n<p>Conversation and moderation: <strong>Isolde Charim<\/strong>, author and philosopher.<\/p>\n<p>The emergence of post-industrial society is essentially determined by the change in the middle class. This is drifting apart into three parts: a new middle class, an old middle class and a new underclass. This structural change in society is giving rise to new lines of conflict. However, the victims of this epochal upheaval are the social democratic parties.
