WORLD ORIGIN
\nThe global crises and the illusions of the West<\/h4>\n

After the end of the Cold War, the USA and its allies hoped to reorganise the international system according to their own ideas. But instead of creating order, they created chaos. The dream of westernising the world is now a thing of the past. What remains is a world disorder characterised by multipolarity, bloc formation and uncertainty, which will continue to shape international politics for a long time to come. What challenges do we have to face in Germany and Europe? What means of power do we have at our disposal? Carlo Masala's central thesis is that we need a realistic view of international relations that frees itself from illusions, takes geostrategic realities into account and learns once again not only to read the language of power, but also to speak it.<\/p>\n

Carlo Masala<\/strong> is Professor of International Politics at the Faculty of Political and Social Sciences and Director of the Metis Institute for Strategy and Foresight at the University of the Federal Armed Forces in Munich. He is a successful podcaster, feared Twitterer and sought-after commentator for German and foreign media. He is also a frequent guest on major political talk shows.<\/p>\n

Oliver Rathkolb <\/strong>is a professor at the Institute for Contemporary History at the University of Vienna. He has been editor of the journal \u201ezeitgeschichte\u201c since 2004. He is also chairman of the House of European History (European Parliament\/Brussels) and a member of the scientific advisory board of the Kreisky Forum.<\/p>\n
