The new director of the Wiener Festwochen in conversation at the Kreisky Forum!<\/strong><\/p>\n

Critics have already called him the \u201emost influential\u201c (Die Zeit) and the \u201emost controversial\u201c (New York Times) theatre artist of our time - the Swiss-born author and director Milo Rau. At the beginning of this year, he was crowned the new artistic director of the Wiener Festwochen in a spectacular display of courage by those in charge. He also churns out books in a dense staccato. The \u201ereconquest of the future\u201c has just been delivered. Milo Rau whirls around the world, it feels like he is on a different continent every week. \u201eReconquering the Future\u201c is based on last year's Zurich Poetry Lectures. He interprets poetics in its entirety, as the poetics of solidarity, of communal experiences, the poetics of co-operation. Milo Rau is all of these things: artist, fighter, thinker. \u201eYou can't think alone,\u201c he says. An honest, marvellous, self-deprecating and clever book.<\/p>\n

Milo Rau,<\/strong> born in Bern in 1977, studied sociology, German and Romance languages and literature in Paris, Zurich and Berlin. He is a permanent member of the \u201eLiterature Club\u201c on Swiss television, artistic director of the Vienna Festival and resident artist at NTGent. His theatre productions and films have been shown in over 30 countries, have been invited to the most important national and international festivals and have received numerous awards, most recently the European Theatre Prize and the Swiss Film Prize. The \u201eZurich Trials\u201c or the \u201eMoscow Trials\u201c and \u201eHate Radio\u201c are legendary.<\/p>\n
