Using the concept of fear as a guiding principle, Heinz Bude captures a society of disturbing uncertainty, swallowed anger and silent bitterness. This affects intimate relationships as well as the world of work, the relationship to political offers as well as the attitude to financial services. Stock market crises, confusing data streams, data storage - these terms are scary, and yet we continue to surf the web and get on the rollercoaster of the financial markets when the opportunity to make money presents itself. What social developments do people feel at the mercy of, where do they feel abandoned, patronised or ignored? How can our ego withstand fear and in which rituals and discourses can it communicate with others about shared fears? Heinz Bude will address these and many other questions in his lecture.

Heinz Bude's book Gesellschaft der Angst was published by Hamburger Edition in September 2014 (168 pages
ISBN 978-3-86854-284-4)
