Evgenia and Vladimir Kara-Murza

Evgenia and Vladimir Kara-Murza work in many ways to hold the Russian government and corrupt Kremlin officials accountable for violations of human rights, democracy and the rule of law. Following the politically motivated imprisonment of political activist, journalist, author and filmmaker Vladmir Kara-Murza, Evgenia Kara-Murza continued her husband's work as Advocacy Director of the Free Russia Foundation, focussing on FRF's public diplomacy and global outreach on behalf of Russian civil society. Vladmir Kara-Murza was released from prison in August this year and continues his human rights work outside Russia.

Dr Gerald Rockenschaub

Gerald Rockenschaub studied medicine at the University of Graz, was initially a surgeon and emergency physician, and joined WHO/Europe in 2004 as Regional Representative and Programme Director, where he was responsible for emergency preparedness and humanitarian aid. From 2014 to 2021, he was Head of the WHO Office in the Occupied Palestinian Territories (West Bank and Gaza Strip) in Jerusalem, then became WHO Representative in Albania and most recently Director of the WHO Europe Emergency Programme in Copenhagen. As a doctor in the midst of international conflicts, he took on the role of a „health diplomat“, mediating between the conflicting parties on health issues in order to ensure health care in crisis situations and to put patients, who are otherwise often at risk of being lost in the midst of political conflicts, at the centre of attention.

Association of Autonomous Austrian Women's Shelters (AÖF)

The Association of Autonomous Austrian Women's Shelters (AÖF), which serves as an umbrella organisation for 16 autonomous women's shelters in Austria, was founded in 1988 and is still an information hub, support, service and representation for all members today. AÖF is a member of WAVE - Women Against Violence Europe, a European network against violence against women, which was part of AÖF for over 20 years and has been a separate organisation since 2014. AÖF is also at the heart of five important pillars of violence prevention: the information centre against violence, the women's helpline against violence 0800 222 555, the online counselling service „HelpChat - Stop Violence“, the project StoP - neighbourhoods without partner violence and the BAKHTI centre for empowerment for girls* and young women* with additional services for boys*, which will open in 2023. Through all these services and tireless public relations work and political persuasion with the aim of raising awareness, the association not only offers protection for women, but also for their children.
