ABOUT HYPOCRISY

Russia's war, migration, climate change, inflation, Trump for the second time? The mood is doom and gloom, once again.

Globally active intelligence services and highly funded research institutions are failing to find answers to dramatic upheavals in the global power play. Indeed, the politicians guiding them are often completely wrong. Just think of the assessments of developments in Russia and China and within the EU in Hungary and Poland.

Paul Lendvai has been observing events at close quarters for decades. He sees both the waning power of liberal ideas and the seductive offers of populist autocrats. Only one thing remains constant: hypocrisy.

At the Bruno Kreisky Forum for International Dialogue, Paul Lendvai presents his new book „On Hypocrisy“ in conversation with Cathrin Kahlweit, which will be published by Zsolnay on 29 January.

Paul Lendvai, born in Budapest in 1929, has lived in Vienna since 1957. He is head of the ORF European studio and a columnist for the Standard. The journalist and author has received numerous prizes and awards. His most recent books are The playful world. Encounters and memories (2019) and Well-tested Austria (2022).
