Lorenz Gallmetzer was an ORF correspondent in Washington and Paris for many years, and he was an alcoholic. In Kalksburg, the largest addiction clinic in Europe, he succeeded in rehab. There he met people who, like him, have not given up the fight against addiction.
The stories Lorenz Gallmetzer tells in this book are dramatic, not least his own: the successful journalist keeps his depression under control with alcohol for many years, overcoming stress and fear of failure, until one day he has to admit that the addiction has him in its grip. The danger of becoming addicted lurks in many places. Anyone who has read this book will understand why.
