WITH DIFFERENT EYES. EXPERIMENT ABOUT THE POLITICIAN AND PRIVATE MAN WILLY BRANDT

Peter Brandt
Head of the Department of Modern German and European History and Director of the Institute for
European Constitutional Studies at the FernUniversität in Hagen.
Willy Brandt's eldest son Peter remembers his father as a politician and private citizen, who was still one of the most controversial personalities in Germany in the 1980s. And he writes about the »loving, but not entirely easy relationship between two unwieldy people«.
Peter Brandt combines the family perspective with the analytical view of a historian. The result is not a biography of Willy Brandt in the conventional sense - but rather an essay that interprets the private and the political together, and which brings out previously lesser-known traits of this figure of the century with critical affection.
Peter Brandt will read from the book, followed by a discussion with Robert Misik and the audience.
