Book Vienna 19: ROSA JOCHMANN - POLITICAL ACTOR AND TIME WITNESS
Veronika Duma:
Rosa Jochmann - political actor and contemporary witness
Rosa Jochmann (1901-1994) was a prominent public figure in Austria, but also beyond the country's borders: she was known as the „grande dame“ of social democracy, a contemporary witness, former resistance fighter and survivor of the National Socialist women's concentration camp Ravensbrück, who was committed to the fight against racism, anti-Semitism and fascism throughout her life.
This first comprehensive biography locates Rosa Jochmann in Austrian history and thus also in the socio-political developments of the 20th century from a gender-historical perspective. The work looks at Rosa Jochmann's political network of women and friends in the interwar period, at the era characterised by the establishment of (Austro)Fascism and National Socialism, at the post-war period and the Cold War, and at her role as a politician and contemporary witness.
