SMASH THE SCHOOL SYSTEM ... AND REBUILD IT!

Alexia Weiss and Daniel Landau in conversation
SMASH THE SCHOOL SYSTEM ... AND REBUILD IT!
There is great dissatisfaction with the school system: children are under- or over-challenged, parents complain about too much pressure and too much learning. Teachers want to teach, but find that they are unable to reach some pupils or have too little teaching time to give them what they need. Headteachers are frustrated by the ever-increasing administrative workload. So what next? „The need for change in schools could be used to not just tackle another small reform, but to redesign the education system,“ says Alexia Weiss. In an interview with education expert and activist Daniel Landau, she presents her thoughts and suggestions.
Alexia Weiss studied German language and literature at the University of Vienna and trained as a journalist.
She has been working as a journalist since 1993. She is currently editor of the Jewish magazine Wina, writes as a freelance journalist for trade union media such as Expertise or Labour & Economy, and occasionally for other magazines and newspapers. Her first novel „Haschems Lasso“ was published in 2009, followed in 2011 by the children's book „Dinah und Levi. Wie jüdische Kinder feiern (Annette Betz Verlag), and her second novel „Endlosschleife“ in 2014.
With „Jew is not a dirty word“ (Verlag Kremayr & Scheriau), she is publishing a very personal non-fiction book in spring 2021. Her polemic „Smash the school system ... and rebuild it!“ has been available since August (Kremayr & Scheriau, ISBN: 978-3-218-01353-6)
