Bruno Kreisky on TOUR – Democracy needs action! & FILM: BRUNO – THE YOUNG KREISKY
The Bruno Kreisky Forum has, together with the WHOOSH Cultural Collective one City tour initiated and created, which premiered on 2 May 2026. The great interest in the Democracy needs action! – The tour, the many positive comments and feedback from participants, and also the enthusiastic questions from young people interested in the topic have given us a real boost.
„Walking part of the way together“ – That was Kreiskys’ motto, and we take it seriously!
To mark the pre-premiere of the film „BRUNO – The Young Kreisky“ on 22 September at the Filmcasino A shortened version of the BRUNO KREISKY TOUR, which normally comprises 11 stops, will take place! This time, we’ll be walking to the most important sites associated with the young Bruno Kreisky in Vienna’s 5th district. As always, we’ll be accompanied by contemporary witnesses, colleagues and Kreisky experts, including Bot. Dr Wolfgang Petritsch. The film’s director, Harald Sicheritz, and lead actors Nils Arztmann and Maya Unger will also be joining us. This version of the BRUNO KREISKY TOUR will conclude at the Kreisky Archive on Rechten Wienzeile, in the former Vorwärtshaus.

Bruno Kreisky was probably the most influential and respected politician in the Second Republic of Austria - ahead of his time on many issues and solutions, a cross-party thinker and respected, internationally recognised, remembered and honoured beyond Austria's borders to this day.
Bruno Kreisky was a Viennese man whom one could meet in person and even ring up directly: And even today, you can encounter him – and thus his ideas – as you hurry along Bruno-Kreisky-Gasse between the Federal Chancellery and the Ministry of the Interior towards the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (1st district) or as you stroll through the park named after him (5th district). There is a square named after the Viennese honorary citizen (22nd district), which is, not coincidentally, situated next to the UNO City, one of the four main headquarters of the United Nations, which Bruno Kreisky brought to Vienna. A council housing block (17th district) is named after him, as is the Bruno Kreisky Archive Foundation (5th district), a school (11th district); there is even a rock band bearing his name and several busts bearing his likeness. Kreisky brought OPEC (1st district) to Vienna and successfully campaigned to establish Vienna as a conference venue for the CSCE (Conference on Security and Co-operation in Europe), which ultimately also brought the OSCE Secretariat (1st district) to the federal capital in 1995. Kreisky commissioned the construction of the country’s largest conference centre, the Austria Center Vienna. None of the projects was without controversy, but all contributed to Austria’s foreign policy reputation as a platform for international dialogue.

At a time when democracy is under pressure in many different ways, the Bruno Kreisky Forum came up with the idea of organising a walk through Vienna: whilst walking, people can listen and learn, exchange experiences, share memories, pass on knowledge, and discuss their ideas constructively and from a variety of perspectives.
Of course, it should be fun too!
