CARE&ACTION SYMPOSIUM. Who against whom?

Inequality is not a matter of chance, but is politically driven and deliberately engineered. In areas such as work, education, housing and care, people are often pitted against one another in a discourse of competition. Who benefits from this „us versus them“ narrative? Together with experts, Sara Hassan will be speaking at the „arts of change – change of arts: care & action“ symposium, drawing on her book *Who Against Whom?* to discuss power structures and the ways in which we can foster greater solidarity and justice.
From 23 to 25 October, the interdisciplinary, public symposium „arts of change – change of arts: care & action“ will take place at the WEST Reallabor Fassfabrik in Vienna. The symposium, organised jointly by artists and experts from academia and beyond, explores the connection between care and creativity in the context of social sustainability. In times of global conflicts, climate crises and socio-ecological upheavals caused by wars, many people suffer from emotional distress. This results in isolation, social division and the marginalisation of vulnerable groups. Here, creative methods offer effective tools for bringing about change together, fostering a sense of community and helping people to cope with overwhelming emotions such as fear, numbness and panic.
