COMMITTED DOCTOR, CONTROVERSIAL CITIZEN

YOUTUBE Premiere "From Kreisky's living room"
Christoph Zielinski in conversation with Robert Misik about the healthcare system, justice and civil rights in the „pandemic society“
He has been one of Austria's leading medical experts for decades - oncologist Christoph Zielinski. University Professor of Internal Oncology and Clinical Immunology, Head of the Division of Oncology at the Department of Internal Medicine I in Vienna until 2017, formerly also Vice Rector of MedUni Vienna. The most famous cancer researcher and doctor in the country. Or as they say in Vienna: the Zielinski of Vienna General Hospital. At the same time, however, he always made a name for himself as a controversial citizen and „public intellectual“. Zielinski was involved in health campaigns and anti-cancer education. When it comes to discrimination and hate politics, he raises his voice. „It's time for a new sea of light,“ Zielinski said recently. A liberal, free society, an optimal public healthcare system, medicine and justice - these are issues to which he repeatedly devotes himself - and which need to be discussed all the more urgently in times of the pandemic.
Christoph Zielinski was born on 20 May 1952 in Wieliczka near Krakow, Poland. He is the son of the writer Adam and the Slavicist Sophie Zielinski. In 1957, the family moved to Vienna, where Christoph Zielinski began studying medicine in 1970.
