CONTEMPORARY WITNESS OF A CENTURY

Peter Michael Lingens' family history is closely intertwined with the history of the 20th century. His book „Zeitzeuge eines Jahrhunderts“ is a plea against neoliberalism, which he fears could break up the EU and bring about a new fascism. The content ranges from his family roots in an industrialist dynasty to the intellectual milieu of the socialist student association of the interwar period, in which his mother was active, to the formative stages of his journalistic career in the country's major media. Lingens takes us through the political scandals of the 70s and 80s to the geopolitical and economic threats of our present day, as manifested in particular in Donald Trump's presidency and Vladimir Putin's aggression.
At the book presentation in the Bruno Kreisky Forum, Peter Michael Lingens talks to Christian Kern and Elfriede Hammerl about formative events in his family history, his time as a journalist and about current problems and challenges for Austria and Europe.
