Janne Teller, born in Copenhagen in 1964, has worked as a conflict consultant for the EU and UN all over the world, particularly in Africa. Since 1995, she has devoted herself entirely to writing and now lives in New York and Berlin. Janne Teller has received numerous awards for her literary work. Her work, which includes novels, essays, short stories and books for young people, always revolves around the big questions in life and often triggers stormy debates with socio-critical themes. For adults, Janne Teller has written the contemporary Nordic saga Odin's Island as well as the love story Europa. Alles, was dir fehlt and most recently Komm über Ethik in Kunst und Gesellschaft (Hanser, 2012). The much-discussed, award-winning international bestseller Nichts - was im Leben wichtig ist (Hanser, 2010), the short story Krieg, stell dir vor, er wäre hier (Hanser, 2011) and Alles - wasum es geht (Hanser, 2013) were published for young people. Janne Teller's literature has been translated into 25 languages.
Philipp Blom, author, historian and journalist, curates and moderates the event series Torn Years. Discussions with international guests will examine the torn years of the last hundred years, focussing on specific topics.
With Janne Teller, he discusses events and development trends in different parts of Europe, the topic of European identity and the significance of literature in times of upheaval.
