This talk will tackle some of the most fundamental yet urgent questions regarding Yemen today: What is the current state of play in the war, which has just entered its fourth year? Who are the main players and what do they want? Is there any end in sight? The talk will also look at why militant jihad persists in Yemen, despite the millions being spent on counter-terror operations. The speaker will base her conclusions both on academic textual analysis and on practical on-the-ground fieldwork inside Yemen.

Moderation Gudrun Harrer, Senior Editor, Der Standard; Lecturer on Modern History and Politics of the Middle East, University of Vienna and Diplomatic Academy of Vienna
