FEAR AND SCAREMONGERING

FEAR AND SCAREMONGERING
How do we pay for the economic consequences of the pandemic and war?
Markus Marterbauer and Martin Schürz's plea for a better welfare state
Neoliberal economic policy sees fear as a mobilising factor. It fuels fear of poverty in old age, social decline and the patronising state. But is this what we need in the face of a pandemic, war and climate crisis?
Markus Marterbauer and Martin Schürz argue in favour of an economic policy that counteracts well-founded fears in a targeted manner, encourages the frightened, awakens hope and creates freedom. In a society in which a few people own billions, there must be no poverty and politics must not be fuelled by scaremongering. A plea for high minimum standards in a better welfare state, wages that people can live well on and a limit on wealth.
