Cathrin Kahlweit and Raimund Löw in conversation with Federal Minister Beate Meinl-Reisinger

WHOEVER WANTS PEACE MUST DO WHAT EXACTLY?
DIPLOMACY AND AUSTRIAN FOREIGN POLICY IN DIFFICULT TIMES

Beate Meinl-Reisinger has been Austrian Foreign Minister for eight months. This is the first time that the NEOS, as the youngest and smallest coalition party, has held the office and the party leader has taken on the role in difficult times. Major challenges for Austria, the EU and the international community: almost four years of war by Russia against Ukraine and hybrid attacks against the West, a new role for the USA under President Trump, the war in Gaza and an unresolved Palestinian question, ongoing global crises with consequences for development, migration and the climate, challenges to international law, the international
order and multilateralism, an EU in search of unity.

Where is continuity and where is change needed in Austrian foreign policy? Can Austria mediate and promote democracy and the rule of law internationally? How should Austria position itself against an aggressive Russia without compromising its neutrality, what reforms should it campaign for in a European Union so that Brussels can assert itself in a multipolar world? What role does Austria play in the United Nations? Federal Minister Meinl-Reisinger answers these and many other questions from journalists Cathrin Kahlweit and Raimund Löw - and from the audience - at the Bruno Kreisky Forum.

Beate Meinl-Reisinger, lawyer, author and politician (NEOS). She has been Federal Minister for European and International Affairs of the Republic of Austria since 3 March 2025 and has also been Chairwoman of the NEOS party since June 2018.
