IN COLD FEVER. FEBRUARY STORIES FROM 1934

2014 marks the 80th anniversary of the Austrian Civil War. The uprising of the working class and the Republican Protection League against the Austrofascist regime on 12 February 1934 was brutally crushed by the Heimwehr units and the military and represented a decisive political turning point on the road to March 1938. Im Kältefieber is the most comprehensive anthology to date on the February battles, focussing on the fighters, workers and their wives and families who opposed the crushing of democracy. The texts go beyond the immediate events of the struggle and shed light on both its prehistory and its consequences.
"Im Kältefieber. February Stories from 1934" (Erich Hackl, Evelyne Polt-Heinzl, editors) will be published by Picus Verlag in February 2014.
