JIHADISM IN AUSTRIA
A DANGEROUS SCENE WITH GREAT IDEOLOGICAL POWER
In 2020, it became clear that the threat of terrorist attacks from organisations such as the Islamic State (IS) and al-Qaeda has not been averted. The attacks in Austria and France showed that Europe also remains a target for these organisations. As part of a consecutive series of studies organised by the Konrad Adenauer Foundation entitled Islamist terrorism in Europe renowned experts analyse the jihadist threat situation as well as the corresponding counter-strategies and the political debate in various countries. Guido Steinberg took a close look at Austria, which experienced the most serious Islamist terrorist attack in its history in Vienna in November 2020. In this interview with Walter Posch, Guido Steinberg presents and discusses his findings.
