Few people have been able to experience such a variety of worlds in their professional lives as Ewald Nowotny. In this book, he not only analyses key economic events of recent decades, but also portrays the people involved and their motives. It is a report from an Austrian and international perspective on personal experiences in the fields of science, politics and banking. At the same time, it is also a personal account of the career, the environment and the socio-political considerations of an internationally recognised Austrian economist.

Ewald Nowotny, born in 1944, university lecturer at the Universities of Linz, Harvard and the Vienna University of Economics and Business, where he also served as Vice Rector for a time. Author of 12 scientific books and numerous articles in scientific journals. In addition to his academic activities, member of the Austrian National Council, including 11 years as Chairman of the Finance Committee. From 1999, he held leading positions in the banking sector as Vice President of the European Investment Bank in Luxembourg and later as General Director of BAWAG-PSK. 20082019 Governor of the Oesterreichische Nationalbank and member of the Board of Governors of the European Central Bank. After his retirement, President of the Austrian Society for European Policy and lecturer at the Vienna University of Economics and Business and the University of Vienna. Ewald Nowotny is a member of the board of the Bruno Kreisky Forum.
