OUT OF THE GLOBALISATION TRAP

Turbo capitalism, climate crisis, inequality: how can we achieve the socio-ecological transformation of the economy?

Unbridled markets and hyper-globalisation have led us into total dependence on the world market. But how can we get away from resource depletion, soya, fast fashion and other cheap imported drugs? And now how to achieve decarbonisation? Is this the death knell for our industry?
It is a real opportunity, says Nikolaus Kowall. Because the ecological transformation leads to higher added value. Imports will be replaced by in-house production. What we need for this are targeted market interventions so that the green transformation of the economy is not prevented by ruinous competition. Let's wake up, otherwise the future will happen without us.

Nikolaus Kowall, Economist
Robert Misik, Author and journalist

Nikolaus Kowall is an economist and political activist. He has been a member of the SPÖ for 15 years. Most recently, he paved the way for Andreas Babler to run for SPÖ leader. After holding academic positions in Düsseldorf and Berlin, Kowall finally ended up as a university lecturer at the BFI Vienna University of Applied Sciences. The economist is also trying to dust off the social democracy in terms of content and to think ahead without shaking its fundamental values.
