WOLFGANG MADERTHANER IN CONVERSATION WITH ERIKA PLUHAR
RAISE YOUR VOICE
About culture, politics and life
ERIKA PLUHAR was born in 1939. After graduating from grammar school and the „Max Reinhardt Seminar“ drama school, she was engaged at the Burgtheater in Vienna, where she was a successful protagonist for four decades. She also made a name for herself in film and television throughout the German-speaking world. At the age of 40, she began to work musically, became an interpreter of her own songs and at the same time regularly published books.
At the age of 60, she withdrew completely from the profession of pure acting. She worked in film (writing, directing, producing), produced her own sound recordings and continued - and continues - to perform in front of audiences with concerts and readings, always consistently representing her own content. As a writer, she has published and continues to publish books that are also bought and have secured her a loyal readership, which her publishing house enjoys. For some time now, it has been Residenz-Verlag - most recently published: „Die öffentlicher Frau“, 2013, „Gegenüber“, 2016 and most recently „Hedwig“, 2021. The hardcover editions are usually taken over by Suhrkamp-Insel as paperbacks. Erika Pluhar gives lectures, expresses herself politically and, without ever having belonged entirely to a „scene“, is still active in the public sphere, making music, writing and taking a political stance.
