RUSSIA, UKRAINE AND THE FUTURE

It is the most serious military conflict in Europe for decades and its consequences are barely foreseeable. Russia's war in Ukraine is also a conflict that divides the world: geopolitically, for example between China and the USA, and ideologically, as the heated debates in Europe about military aid for Ukraine show. But ideology is out of place if you want to understand how this war came about and where it will lead. Renowned Russia expert Gerhard Mangott analyses the background, consequences and the question of whether a mass uprising from below or a palace revolt against Vladimir Putin is conceivable in Russia - and what this would mean for Russia, Europe and the world.

Gerhard Mangott is a professor of political science specialising in international relations and security in the post-Soviet space at the University of Innsbruck. He was previously Scientific Adviser on Post-Soviet Affairs at the Austrian Institute for International Politics (OIIP) in Vienna. The analyses of the proven Russia expert have been in high demand, especially since the start of the Russian war in Ukraine. Gerhard Mangott gave over 800 interviews to German and Austrian print, radio and TV media in 2022 alone. Almost 50,000 people follow his analyses on x, formerly Twitter.

Raimund Löw, journalist, author, historian, is head of the Falter Radio. Prior to that, he had reported for ORF as a foreign correspondent since the 1980s, including from Moscow, Brussels, Washington and Beijing
