STATE AND RELIGION IN SAUDI ARABIA
History and present of Wahhabism
The Wahhabis have dominated Saudi Arabia's religious policy for more than 250 years, imposing their interpretation of Islam in the country and exporting it abroad. Since 2017, Crown Prince Mohammed Bin Salman has been endeavouring to push back the influence of the Wahhabi religious scholars and reform the state, economy and society. The lecture deals with the past and present of the relationship between religion and politics in Saudi Arabia.
