THE BEAUTIFUL

„Michael Köhlmeier praises culture as a way to better understand oneself.“
Michael Wurmitzer, Der Standard

A temptation to read, listen and look openly into the world: Michael Köhlmeier invites you on a very personal journey, from Tolstoy to Mozart to Batman's Joker. Who does art speak to? Did Shakespeare invent the human - or even the human being? Did Bob Dylan create the most beautiful form of ancient poetry? What is beauty anyway? Michael Köhlmeier strolls through the world - and combines his amazement with the big and small questions of the present. He celebrates all facets of an intellectual savoir-vivre and creates a small school of intelligent rapture. His new book is the ideal companion for anyone who wants to be inspired by beauty.

Michael Köhlmeier, born in Hard on Lake Constance, lives in Hohenems/Vorarlberg and Vienna. The writer and audiobook narrator has received numerous awards, including the Konrad Adenauer Foundation Literature Prize and the Marie Luise Kaschnitz Prize for his complete works in 2017 and the Ferdinand Berger Prize in 2019.

Philipp Blom studied philosophy, history and Jewish studies in Vienna and Oxford. He lives as a historian and writer in Vienna.
