THE DOUBLE FACE OF EUROPE. Between capitalism and democracy
Democracy Reloaded, curated by Isolde Charim
For Hauke Brunkhorst, Europe is both Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde: the contradiction between the logic of emancipation and the logic of technocratic administration. Europe, controlled as perfectly by Mr Hyde as it is by Mrs Merkel, appears to be defencelessly at the mercy of the economic siege. But the crisis is triggering a return of the merely repressed interest in emancipation. In view of this situation, the book is "helpless, but not without hope".
