Noreena Hertz in conversation with Tessa Szyszkowitz

Combining a decade of research with first-hand reporting the British economist Noreena Hertz analyses in her book “The Lonely Century” how loneliness destroys our health, our communities, our economies and our political securities. “Hertz cites research that links loneliness - or perhaps more accurately, marginalisation - to the rise of right-wing politics...This book is not so much about the emotional ache we call loneliness as it is about the fragmentation of community.” (The Guardian)

Hertz, an Honorary Professor at the Institute for Global Prosperity at University College London since 2014, also offers a hopeful and empowering vision for how to heal our fractured communities and restore connection in our lives. Bold solutions range from compassionate Artificial Intelligence to innovative models for urban living to new ways of reinvigorating our neighbourhoods and reconciling our differences.
