Elias Khoury, a Lebanese-Palestinian writer, opens up a wide panorama of suffering and horror with his novel The Gate to the Sun, offering a view of life, death and love in the Palestinian refugee camps in Lebanon. We do not see through the eyes of a reporter or documentarist (although the individual fates are based on interviews with the author), but with those of a writer who is as compassionate as he is highly educated and who not only has the most modern writing techniques at his disposal, but also the centuries-old traditions of oriental storytelling: repetition, digression, variation.
The Bruno Kreisky Forum has been working for several years with a group of Jewish and Arab intellectuals on the topic of „The Jewish/Arab Engagement with the Arab/Jewish Question“ and vice versa. It is about the empathic encounter with the „other“ and the question of the intertwined life worlds of Israeli Jews and Palestinians.

A collaboration between the Burgtheater and the Bruno Kreisky Forum for International Dialogue.

Advance ticket sales from 20 October at all Burgtheater box offices
