The New Minority
Why the „white working class“ is so angry

Members of the white working class no longer feel politically represented, are at risk of declassification and feel that they have been pushed from the centre to the periphery of their societies. They often see themselves as culturally devalued, for example as „rednecks“, „narrow-minded racists“, and as victims of discrimination themselves. They experience themselves as replaceable, sense arrogance and often develop a resigned attitude. And they feel betrayed by the traditional labour parties.

Justin Gest conducted hundreds of interviews with people in the deindustrialised American Midwest and in the British working class districts of East London for his grandiose social science study. „Members of the white working class tend to be more left-wing on economic issues and more conservative on most social issues.“
