Gudrun Harrer, Lecturer for Modern History and Politics of the Near and Middle East at the University of Vienna and at the Diplomatic Academy of Vienna.

„It is the unfortunate Arab trifecta of poverty, inequality and powerlessness that is driving more and more Arabs to despair and sometimes to the barricades,“ says ORF correspondent Karim El-Gawhary, summarising the situation in the Arab world. In his latest book, El-Gawhary describes the Arab race of the last ten years between repression and rebellion. In this interview, two renowned journalists and Middle East experts discuss how the Arab region has developed over the past decade. They pay particular attention to Egypt, whose people brought down the long-time ruler Hosni Mubarak ten years ago in February 2011.
