Who has benefited and who has been harmed by globalisation? What are the effects on global income inequality? What role does place of birth play in the distribution of income? And what does all this have to do with elephants?

Branko Milanović, one of the world's most prominent distribution economists, brings these and other questions together in his new book and focuses his analysis on the determinants of the global distribution of labour and capital income. As always, he does this on the basis of comprehensive analyses of data and facts as well as a large number of scientific studies.

Branko Milanović is currently Visiting Presidential Professor at the Graduate Center of the City University of New York and Senior Scholar at the LIS Cross-National Data Centre in Luxembourg. Previously, he was Chief Economist at the World Bank for almost 20 years. He has been working on issues of income inequality and globalisation since his doctoral thesis.
