WAR ON THE GOLF
How the power struggle between Iran and Saudi Arabia threatens global security
The Middle East conflict has shifted in recent years. And it has taken on a new dimension: Since US President Donald Trump unilaterally cancelled the nuclear agreement with Iran in May 2018, tensions have been growing in the Middle East and the Persian Gulf. Saudi Arabia and Iran are two countries that are fighting bitterly for hegemony in the Middle East. This conflict has implications for global politics as a whole. - and, in the event of war, also has direct consequences for Europe. In his book War in the Gulf, published in autumn 2020, the renowned Islamic scholar Guido Steinberg explains this highly dangerous conflict and illustrates how much it also affects us.
In conversation with Walter Posch, Guido Steinberg presents his book and analyses current developments in the region.
