WE
Robert Misik in conversation with Judith Kohlenberger

We. How easily this word comes to our lips. We are a couple, we are a family, we are friends, we are a community, we are a nation. We are not the others. Or are we?
Judith Kohlenberger takes a close look: Who is the we in which context? Which We do we choose ourselves, which one is ascribed to us by origin, profession, status? When does the "we" become a tool of exclusion? And how do we move towards a more inclusive "we"?
This clear-sighted essay dispels the assumption that the "we" so often invoked and instrumentalised by politics is self-evident and fixed. Rather, it is fleeting, elusive, changeable - and a constant conflict that must be endured.
Judith Kohlenberger argues clearly and sensitively in favour of a strong, bold "we" that is not afraid of growing pains and sees differences as an opportunity for further development and genuine participation.

Judith Kohlenberger, born in 1986, holds a doctorate in cultural studies and currently works at the Institute for Social Policy at WU Vienna. She researches refugee migration, integration and social participation. Kurt Rothschild Prize 2019 for one of Europe's first studies on the autumn of refugees in 2015. Lecturer at the Vienna University of Economics and Business and the Vienna University of Applied Sciences. Member of the FALTER Think Tank and the Expert Council Migration. Integration.participation. Several board and advisory board activities, including for migrant and frida Asyl- und Fremdenrechtsberatung.
