Robert Misik in conversation with Gerald Knaus
WE AND THE REFUGEES

While migration is increasingly being used as a means of exerting political pressure - for example during the Russian invasion of Ukraine or the war in Syria - the question is quickly raised about large-scale refugee movements in Europe: Does irregular migration jeopardise democracy? Migration expert Gerald Knaus shows the extent to which flight also calls our values into question: Is it moral to differentiate between refugees and other migrants? Or is it immoral not to? Are we particularly empathetic because Europe has taken in the most refugees in the world in recent years? Or hypocrites because more people die at Europe's borders than anywhere else? Talking about refugees also means talking about morality, politics and human nature. At the same time, Knaus shows what solutions for humane borders and more protection for refugees look like.
