The Middle East and football expert Leo Wigger talks about the political power of football in the Middle East - not only in Qatar, but also in other countries, especially in Iran - and tries to explain how Qatar actually „ticks“, what it intends with a sporting commitment and what not, and what should be paid more attention to in reporting in Europe.
Leo Wigger studied International Politics at the London School of Oriental and African Studies (SOAS) and completed study visits to Bulgaria and Pakistan, among other places. He is an expert on South and Central Asia and the Black Sea region at zenith magazine and the Berlin-based think tank Candid Foundation. Wigger also specialises in international sports policy. Together with Robert Chatterjee, he wrote the book There's Never Been a World Cup Like This: Qatar 2022, which was published in July 2022.
