What happened to antisemitism?
Redefinition and the Myth of the “Collective Jew”

In his new book, Antony Lerman explains how anti-Semitism has become one of the most controversial issues of our time. The public, academics, journalists, activists and Jews themselves are divided over its meaning like never before. This is the result of a 30-year process of redefinition that increasingly equates anti-Semitism with criticism of Israel's policies. The consequences of this redefinition are alarming: the progressive demonisation of universalist positions and a populist legitimisation of Islamophobia and nationalism. The result is also a threat to Jews all over the world.

Antony Lerman is a British writer specialising in the study of anti-Semitism, the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, multiculturalism and the place of religion in society. He is a Senior Fellow at the Bruno Kreisky Forum for International Dialogue and Honorary Fellow of the Parkes Institute for the Study of Jewish/non-Jewish Relations at the University of Southampton. He is the author of „The Making and Unmaking of a Zionist: A Personal and Political Journey“ (London, 2012) and editor of „Do I Belong?“ (London, 2017).
