WORKING CLASS

Robert Misik in conversation with JULIA FRIEDRICHS
WORKING CLASS
Why we need work we can live from
The generation following the baby boomers is the first since the Second World War, the majority of whom will not surpass their parents economically. Although the economy has been growing for a decade, the majority in this country have hardly any capital, no wealth. But it has become more difficult to achieve prosperity through one's own efforts, especially for those who are now under 45. Half of them fear that they will be poor in old age. What are the causes of this major social upheaval, when did it start?
In her latest book, Julia Friedrichs spoke to scientists, experts and politicians. Above all, however, she has accompanied people who thought that work would carry them through life, who clean, teach, go to the office day after day and realise that it is not enough after all. They are the unheard half of the country. Julia Friedrichs tells their story.
