Ari Rath Prize for Critical Journalism 2019
Silvana Meixner was seriously injured by a letter bomb 25 years ago. "Undeterred by this, she continued her journalistic commitment to refugees, ethnic minorities and human rights," the jury said in its statement. "She has built up a team of first-class journalists at ORF that now radiates far beyond the core editorial team of ’Heimat Fremde Heimat"."
The award for critical journalism was established in the spirit of the renowned former editor-in-chief of the Jerusalem Post, who died in January 2017, to honour journalists who have made an outstanding contribution to critical reporting on flight, displacement and asylum that is committed to upholding human rights.
