Cult Chancellor Kreisky

On 21 April 1970 - exactly 50 years ago - SPÖ Chairman Bruno Kreisky was appointed Federal Chancellor of the Republic of Austria by Federal President Franz Jonas.

The "Kreisky I Cabinet" was able to begin its work. Initially as a minority government, it was given an absolute majority by the voters from the next elections in October 1971.
Bruno Kreisky was to remain head of government for 13 years: a time of opening up the country, many far-reaching reforms and an active foreign policy.

Home affairs journalist Christoph Kotanko was 16 years old when Bruno Kreisky became Federal Chancellor. He experienced the Kreisky era as a pupil, student and then as a journalist. His book is an invitation to rediscover or rediscover Kreisky.
Christoph Kotanko has now Carl Ueberreuter Publishing House, (Vienna 2020, ISBN: 978-3-8000-7746-5) the book Cult Chancellor Kreisky. Man and myth with a foreword by Heinz Fischer.

Heinz Fischer, Bruno Kreisky's companion for many years, recalls the special moments 50 years ago and Bruno Kreisky's time in government in a video.
