EUROPEAN DAWN

WHERE IS EUROPE HEADING AFTER BREXIT?

In mid-February, Ivan Krastev presented, Bulgarian political scientist, Director of the Centre for Liberal Strategies in Sofia, Bulgaria and Permanent Fellow at the Institute for Human Sciences in Vienna, will present his latest collection of essays EUROPADÄMMERUNG at the Kreisky Forum.

After 1989, maps were suddenly no longer in fashion. Borders were to be opened to people, goods, capital and ideas. The old maps were replaced by graphics illustrating the economic interdependence within the EU. Today, we are experiencing an ideological tidal shift: whereas the majority of Europeans were optimistic about globalisation just a few years ago, they now see migration and the return of geopolitics as a source of uncertainty. Ivan Krastev analyses the causes of this change and discusses what forms European disintegration could take.
According to Krastev, the disintegration of the EU would be a tragedy that would condemn the continent to international insignificance.

THE TIME to Krastev's European Dawn
