Eva Menasse: AUSTRIA - HOW ARE WE?

On 1 June 2022, the Austrian writer Eva Menasse, who lives in Berlin, was awarded the Bruno Kreisky Prize for the Political Book 2021 for her novel „Dunkelblum“ (Kiepenheuer & Witsch, 2021). She gave an extremely impressive speech at the Kreisky Forum on the occasion of the award ceremony.
The Bruno Kreisky Prize for Political Books has been awarded annually since 1993 by Karl Renner Institute in cooperation with the Social Democratic Educational Organisation was awarded. This prize, in the spirit of Bruno Kreisky's life's work, honours political literature that stands for freedom, equality, social justice, solidarity, democracy and social cohesion, tolerance and artistic freedom.
Beyond the main award for the Political Book, an award for a journalistic oeuvre, a special prize for the thematic area „Worlds of Work – Worlds of Education,“ an award for special achievements in publishing, and awards of recognition are presented.
