Qatar has made a name for itself worldwide as a mediator. Last week, a high-ranking negotiator, Secretary of State Mohammed bin Abdulaziz Al-Khulaifi, spoke at the invitation of the Diplomatic Academy and the Bruno Kreisky Forum in Vienna about his country's attempts to mediate, including its involvement in the release of the Austrian-Israeli hostage Tal Shoham. The Qatari negotiators are considered to be well connected - even with internationally isolated actors such as Hamas and the Taliban in Afghanistan. For this reason, international conflicts have increasingly been leading to Doha for years.
