The invisible work

On 6 April 2016, a discussion evening was held at the Bruno Kreisky Forum for International Dialogue on the topic of „The invisible work. Refugee care in practice“ took place. The event was hosted by BKF curator Isolde Charim with her series „Diaspora. Explorations of a life model“.
On the podium: Christine Okresek and her team, who have been looking after unaccompanied minor refugees (UMF) at „Haus Ottakring“ since summer 2015;
Laura Schoch, coordinator of „connect Ottakring“, a project of the Austrian Children's Friends in cooperation with the Vienna Children's Friends and the City of Vienna; and Marwan Abado, Austrian-Palestinian musician and composer, who launched the „Mobile Music School“ project last autumn.
The „Ottakring House“ has been run by Samariterbund Austria since August 2015. Around 30 unaccompanied underage girls currently live there. The girls are between 14 and 18 years old and come from Somalia, Afghanistan, Syria and some African countries. Since September 2015, around 30 unaccompanied underage boys, 20 women and some families have also been living at Haus Ottakring. This important work, which enables people to gradually return to a regular and peaceful everyday life, can also be supported. More info
